THE GOOD

Use Your Research to Get the Org Off It’s Ass and Make a Move

The burning question:
How can you make sure your user research truly transforms your organization?

I have been there. I’ve done research.

  • It falls flat

  • Or it gets ignored

  • Or the priorities have shifted onto the next shiny object

Why does this happen and what can we do to prevent this?

Boag’s article suggests a few great tactics

  • Get stakeholders aligned and involved early

  • Align your research or org-level KPIs and goals

  • Keep the research alive through continuous conversations and touch points

Check out Paul Boag’s full article for even more great tips.

THE FAD

The Pros and Cons of Using AI Tools for Research Analysis

I got sick of all the “hand wavy” headlines that suggest we should be using AI for research.

I wanted to know what it was really like to use AI tools for research synthesis.

👉️ Let’s face it, this is such a time consuming part of the process.

And the burning question has become: “Will AI replace the UX researcher?”

I think after you watch the video where I walk through exactly how I did this with a couple of AI tools, you’ll have a better idea of where the technology stands….

At least right now.

Hop over to YouTube and see the entire demo of my process.

Do You Think Theme Parks Are the Happiest Place on Earth?

Think again

Most folks can stroll around a theme park with ease.

They don’t have to worry about how they will clear that big bump with their wheelchair.

Or how they will step up those 2 steps while walking with a cane.

These are very real considerations for people with different walking abilities.

But what happens when a theme park claims to be accessible?

And you get there to find out it is not….

My dear friend experienced this at a major theme park.

Despite claims all over their website that they were certainly accessible.

My dear friend was embarrassed. She was ashamed. And felt like she had been scammed

To vent her frustrations, she wrote the theme park a letter.

But she was too afraid to send the letter herself.

You can read her letter and see first-hand.

See what it feels like to navigate this world with a physical disability.

This is a sad, but important story for people of every ability to embrace.

Read the full article, including my friend’s personal letter.

How long was the shortest war in history?
  • Just 38 minutes.

  • In 1896, the Anglo-Zanzibar War broke out between the British Empire and the Sultanate of Zanzibar.

  • The conflict ended in less than an hour, with a swift British victory.

  • This war was almost as fast as Brexit. Ha ha

P.S. Physical disabilities are not the only experiences we should be designing for.

In my latest BlatzChatz video, I speak with Odette Jensen, where she talks about neurodiversity in the workplace.

Check out the interview with Odette where she talks about her personal experience with autism in the workplace. And how professionals can create inclusive work environments for all abilities.
