THE GOOD

Workshop from Hell?
This graphic is too good not to share.
Have you ever been there?
You are planning on conducting a workshop
You want to align the team
You want the team to collaborate
You know the benefits collective interaction
But then you start the workshop and it does NOT go to plan.
This graphic illustrates what happens in many workshop when things fall apart.
The one that really resonated with me: Senior person that derails everything. 😑
Other challenges with workshops:
Awkward silence – no one speaks up and the room feels dead
Soapbox hero – the person who won’t shut up
I am the user – talking from the point of view of an innocent user, when you actually guild the product
Distracted participants – those who are on their phone or computer and do not contribute. Worst is when they were not paying attention and the ask you to “fill them in” on all the shit that you already covered.
Eager answer – that person who has a perspective on everything – and is damn well going to share it first, every time

THE FAD
AI for Desk Research
Once again, researchers are told we should be using AI for our work.
😦 Some folks are skeptical.
Some people hear we should be using it, but are not exactly sure how.
I want to help people understand how AI can be used in our UX research work.
And yes! AI can actually be really helpful and useful.
It’s faster than a Google search
Organizes things in an orderly way
Written almost in a way a human would speak
Surfaces info right away – right to the point
Watch my demo of how I used AI successfully for secondary desk research.
THE UGLY

This Citibank interface was never tested with users. It was a very costly $500 mistake.
Don’t f*%k up
You will FAIL if You Do Not Do This
Have you ever bypassed usability testing?
What were the consequences?
Did it cost your company $500 million?
In this example it did.
I don’t want to spoil the story here. It’s better on video. Check out the story of how a major U.S. bank lost millions when it did not conduct a usability test.

WAIT, THERE’S MORE
What’s the name of the dot above an “i” or “j”?
A tittle.
The phrase “to a T” actually comes from “to a tittle.”
This means attention to even the smallest details.
Next time you write, you’ll know the tiniest part of your letters has a name.
P.S. Do you really know what a Mental Model is?
I break down what this concept means and how it applies to UX.
